Abstract: Tableau is used to visualize data sets and helps simplify their meaning, promote understanding of those data sets, and communicate important concepts and ideas. This workshop is designed for the beginning user and will review the basic concepts and techniques you need to know to manipulate data in Tableau.
Outline: The workshop will use a variety of library and university datasets to learn how to use Tableau.
- Introduction to the Tableau
- Connecting to data: Tableau offers a variety of ways to connect, enhance, and manipulate data. In this section we’ll learn how to bring your data into the Tableau workspace.
- Exploring with data: Once you have your data in Tableau, you need to learn how to visualize it effectively. We will demonstrate how to build effective visualizations and use the dynamic features of Tableau to explore the data.
- Editing visualizations: After exploring the data, we will put the finishing touches on a variety of data visualizations.
- Adding dynamic elements: We will learn how to use dynamic filters and calculated fields to enhance your visualizations.
- Building dashboards: Once you have a suite of data visualizations, we’ll put them together in a dashboard.
- Publishing your visualizations: Finally, we’ll publish the results on Tableau public.
