DW08 - Workshop - Design Research and the Magic of Synthesis: Making your findings mean something

Too often, design research findings are delivered but not leveraged. Usually, this is not because of bad findings, but because of the way they are synthesized and delivered. Often, research presentations focus too heavily on what was heard instead of on the insights’ true meaning and how to use the findings to drive positive change.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn a process for synthesizing generative user research data into actionable insights. We call this formula the “what, so what, and now what” of user research synthesis.

Some of the topics and methods we will explore, include:

  • conducting generative research interviews

  • using empathy maps as a debriefing tool

  • affinity diagramming to surface patterns and themes

  • leveraging affinity maps to create personas and user journeys
