Based on the user interface customization of the library guide application LibGuides and interlibrary loan application ILLiad, this talk shares some ideas about simplifying workflows, fixing accessibility issues, and making the application easier to use through interface customization. All these efforts aim to improve the user experience of these applications.

Libraries are using more third-party software or applications than software developed in-house. As companies design these tools to serve all their target libraries, the look and feel as well as workflow of these tools may not meet the needs of a specific library. Customization is a vital step before these applications go into production. Based on the user interface customization of the library guide application LibGuides and interlibrary loan application ILLiad, this talk shares some ideas about simplifying workflows, fixing or avoiding accessibility issues, and making the application easier to use through customizing the user interface. All these efforts aim to improve the user experience of these applications. Also, this talk will invite more thoughts on what interface customization can do beyond branding the library.
